From your editor
to a shared document.

Start with the Bubble editor plugin, connect your project, then try editing together. Already have the plugin? Skip to step 2.

  1. Add the editor to your Bubble app

    In Bubble’s Plugins tab, install Rich Text Editor (Tiptap.dev), then place a Tiptap element on a page. whoistyping.wtf provides the collaboration server, not the editor plugin.

  2. Create your project

    Sign up, verify your email, and create a project in the dashboard. Your project settings contain the connection details.

  3. Connect the Tiptap element

    In Bubble, select your Tiptap element and turn on Enable collaboration?. Use your project’s Document Server ID as app_id, select the custom provider, and set a Document name for your first shared document. Use the server address below as-is; the plugin adds your project’s ID to it.

  4. Authenticate your editor

    In the plugin settings, paste your Document Server Secret into Custom collab document server secret. In a Page is loaded workflow, call generate auth token and choose Custom for the secret. Set Document names to your document’s name, Doc Server ID to your project’s ID, and User ID to the current user’s ID.

    Pass the token to Tiptap

    Use the action result as the element’s JWT key. Use the same document name for people editing together.

  5. Try your first shared document

    Open your Bubble page in two browser windows. Use the same project and Document name in both. Type in one editor, then check that the text appears in the other.

    HTML back to Bubble? Optional.

    Get editing working first. When you need the latest document HTML in Bubble, add your endpoint in the project’s webhook settings and choose the Bubble-compatible format.

Keep secrets in the plugin’s private settings, not in page content. Your app remains responsible for deciding who can access each document.

How the editor, your Bubble app, and the document server fit together.

Is this the Tiptap editor plugin?

No. whoistyping.wtf hosts the collaboration server that your Bubble Tiptap plugin connects to. You still build your app and configure the editor in Bubble.

Can I start without a credit card?

Yes. Start on the free tier without a credit card. Create an account and verify your email before connecting your editor. Current plan prices and limits are shown above.

Is the demo connected to other visitors?

No. These are two real Tiptap editors sharing local state in this tab. Maya is an automated collaborator, not another visitor. The demo does not create a hosted document. Reset or reload to return to the example.

Can I send the document HTML back to Bubble?

Yes. Add an endpoint URL in your project’s webhook settings and choose the Bubble-compatible format. It sends the latest document snapshot, including HTML, to your endpoint. Intermediate edits can be combined; this is not an event for every keystroke.

Who controls access to my documents?

Your app does. The document server uses signed tokens to authenticate the project connection. Your app must decide who may receive a token and access a document; the connection alone does not supply document-level permissions. Keep the Document Server Secret private.

Do I need to run a collaboration server?

No. whoistyping.wtf provides the hosted connection at collab.whoistyping.wtf. You configure the plugin and your app’s authentication workflow. We run the collaboration server.
